Edu Bedia: 5 things you don’t know about me
posted in Specials by Edu Bedia on 9th June 2020
It has been a great week for me. I’m delighted to be able to commit my near future to FC Goa, and couldn’t be happier to remain a Gaur for the next couple of years at least.
That being said, this is still only the beginning. We have a long road ahead of us, and it includes fighting for the ISL trophy and performing well in the AFC Champions League.
The fans of FC Goa have been a huge part of my success at the club so far, and it seems only fitting that I have the privilege of sharing a few things that you all probably don’t know about me yet.
#1 I hate flying
I’m sure quite a few of you can relate to this. I’m not a huge fan of having to take flights in order to get to my desired destination.
Turbulence is hard enough to handle, but the whole feeling of being thousands of feet up in the air with nothing in your control isn’t exactly the greatest feeling.
The nature of my job as a professional footballer forces me to fly quite a bit, but if I had a choice, I certainly wouldn’t do it.
#2 I am a perfectionist
I’m sure you are all aware of the quote – “I am my biggest critic.” Well this is certainly true about me in every sense.
Nobody needs to tell me that I have played a bad game or should have made a different decision in a certain position. I most likely already know it myself.
I’m a perfectionist, and I’m also super demanding of myself, both as a player and in my everyday life. It is what keeps me going everyday and helps me strive to be the best, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
#3 Obsessed with nutrition
When you’re a footballer at the highest level, you simply cannot let yourself go. Luckily, I tend to enjoy the healthy options available to me.
I don’t see eating healthy as a burden in any way, but actually embrace the concept of nutrition and enjoy the benefits that come along with it.
I have a clear vision of my body and what works for it, and I’m constantly trying to improve my diet in order to help my body perform to its highest level. If you eat healthy, you stay healthy, and it enables me to perform better for all you wonderful fans.
#4 Cycling is my favourite sport
If you’re wondering what sports I like outside of football, it is cycling. I cycle a lot myself, and consider it a great way to unwind as well as get some physical exercise.
Cycling is a very enjoyable exercise, and generally isn’t that difficult to manage for us in our everyday lives, especially if we happen to live in open areas with plenty of space to cycle in.
I would call cycling my favourite sport outside of football, and I highly recommend it as a mode of exercise for all of you too.
#5 I grew up as an Athletic Bilbao fan
I may be a Gaur now, but when I was a child, I used to enjoy watching Athletic Bilbao play.
I was born in Santander, not too far away from Bilbao, and though I grew up the ranks at my local club Racing Santander, I always loved the way that Athletic Bilbao played.
The team has produced some great players over the years, and even in this day and age, the likes of Ander Herrera, Fernando Llorente, Aritz Aduriz, Javi Martinez and Aymeric Laporte have all spent considerable time at the club. Watching Athletic Club play as a child was one of the highlights of my day.
If you guys want to see a list of my favourite eleven players on a football pitch, you can find that here.
