ISL 2021/22, FC Goa vs. Jamshedpur FC: 3 Gaurs to watch out for

FC Goa will look for redemption and their three points of the season when they take on Jamshedpur FC under the lights at SAG Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Friday evening. After a tough loss to Mumbai City FC in their season opener, the Gaurs will look to turn things around in their second game.

Here are three players who can make that job easier:

Nongdamba Naorem

The winger gave the Gaurs a real potency down the wings upon his introduction in the second half. It was even more impressive considering the fact that this was his first competitive outing after serving a long time out due to an injury to his ACL.

His speed and trickery helped FC Goa get into a number of ominous positions and nearly opened up the gates for a goal in the previous game.

It will now be interesting to see whether he did enough to impress Juan Ferrando and get himself a spot in the starting line-up. The Indian winger

Jorge Ortiz

Ortiz’s arrival on to the pitch in the second half was a sight for sore eyes. The Spaniard’s preparation for the season took a hit in September when an innocuous challenge on him during a Durand Cup encounter ruled him out of the reckoning for the past couple of months.

Whilst everyone knows how lethal he can be when in full swing, it will be interesting to see his fitness levels. The fleet-footed Spaniard failed to make a telling impact in the 34 minutes afforded to him in the last game. However, with some minutes under his belt, Ortiz will look for his first goal this season.

Glan Martins

Glan Martins’ presence in the middle of the park lights things up for FC Goa, especially when not in possession of the ball. His grit and tenacity in the middle of the park lends a whole different dynamic to the Gaurs’ gameplay.

Over the last half of last season, Glan was arguably one of the most influential players in the league with his ability to disrupt the opponent’s plans giving the Gaurs a real upperhand in the proceedings.  A leader in the pressing game, Glan’s energy will be vital for FC Goa to win the midfield battles time and again.
