ISL 2021/22: FC Goa vs Jamshedpur FC, 10 things to know about the game

A 3-0 defeat in their first game wasn’t an ideal start for FC Goa this season. Now Juan Ferrando’s men will look to get back on track in the ISL when they take on Jamshedpur FC on Friday in what is designated as the Gaurs’ first home game.

Jamshedpur, on the other hand, started off their campaign with a 1-1 draw with SC East Bengal and will be looking to notch up their first win of the season.

Heading into a crucial second game, here are 10 things you should know:

1: Jamshedpur FC is the only team that FC Goa did a double over last season.  The Gaurs beat them with a last minute winner in their first encounter before trouncing them 3-0 in the second leg.

2: The last time the Gaurs lost two in a row in the ISL league stage was also the last time a new head coach was in charge in his first season. The 2017/18 season saw the Gaurs stumble to 0-2 and 0-1 defeats to Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC in consecutive games. That run of games actually saw Goa being winless for a stretch of 4 games, of which 3 were defeats.

3: The loss against Mumbai in the season-opener was only the fifth time FC Goa have lost by a 3-goal margin in the ISL since the beginning of the 2017/18 season.

4 – From the current squad of players, four have scored multiple times against Jamshedpur FC. Muhammed Nemil, Devendra Murgaokar, Brandon Fernandes and Jorge Ortiz each have 2 goals to their names.

4: FC Goa have come out victorious in each of the last four occasions they have come across Jamshedpur. These four games have seen the Gaurs score 15 goals, conceding 1.

5: FC Goa’s 5-0 win over Jamshedpur in the last league game of the 2019/20 season was the biggest away win recorded in the history of the Indian Super League. Ferran Corominas, Jackichand Singh, Mourtada Fall and Hugo Boumous (x2) were on the mark that night for the Gaurs.

6: FC Goa has scored 3 or more goals in 6 of the 11 games they have played against Jamshedpur, scoring 30 goals in total and conceding 11. Coro is the highest-ever scorer for FC Goa against Jamshedpur with 5 to his name.

11: The two sides have come across each other on 11 occasions in all competitions , including 2 times in the Super Cup and earlier this season in the Durand Cup (where the Gaurs have prevailed on all occasions). The Gaurs have a favourable head to head record against Friday’s opponent, winning 8 of those 11 matches. Only one game has ended in a draw.

26 – FC Goa’s last game saw the Gaurs dispossess Mumbai 26 times in their own half which includes 10 interceptions. However, they were able to keep only one shot on target. In comparison, Mumbai forced a turnover in the Goa half 17 times.

79 – Seriton Fernandes’ only goal in 79 appearances for FC Goa came against Jamshedpur in a 4-3 win in the quarter-finals of the 2019 Super Cup. The right-back, who leads the side in terms of number of appearances for the Gaurs in the ISL is yet to find the back of the net for the Gaurs in the league.
