Edu Bedia: Defined by numbers
Over the last three seasons, Edu Bedia has become a pivotal part of the FC Goa folklore. His presence, temperament and panache in the middle of the field has helped define what FC Goa is all about.
With him playing a key part in the line-up, the Gaurs went on to qualify for the semi-finals in the Indian Super League. A record haul of 43 goals from the Gaurs had set the Indian footballing scene alight.
And that was again captured in the Super Cup, where they again bowed out at the final-four stage.
A year later, Edu was asked to fill in the shoes of a number 10 in the FC Goa line-up and delivered yet another chapter of success. 7 goals and 5 assists helped the Gaurs reach the final of the ISL, where they eventually lost due to a goal late on in extra time.
A month later, with him at the heart of it all again, FC Goa would go on to win the Super Cup – the club’s first piece of silverware that season.
With Hugo Boumous delivering a ‘Hero of the Tournament’-esque performance, the Spaniard had to play a more supporting role in the last campaign. However, whenever called up, he delivered.
Numbers never give the whole story regarding a football player, but they help give a hint of the kind of impact he/she has had on the pitch over the years.
And looking back a few years, a pattern emerges.
Here are 10 numbers that should give a fair idea of the tremendous impact Edu has had in the FC Goa story.

2: For two successive seasons (2017-18 & 2018-19), Edu ended with the second-highest number of passes for FC Goa with only Ahmed Jahouh managing more both times.
2: Along similar lines, Edu also managed the second-highest number of touches in the entire ISL for two consecutive seasons (2017-18 & 2018-19), once again ending behind Ahmed Jahouh on both occasions
4: Edu Bedia will become the club’s longest-serving foreign player with the 2020/21 season set to be his fourth for FC Goa
7: The midfielder has also represented his country 7 times at various under-age levels. He made 5 appearances for the Spain U20 team and 2 at the U21 level
12: The 2018-19 ISL campaign was the most prolific in terms of goal contributions for the 31-year-old. He bagged 7 goals and 5 assists that season, with only Coro having more of either
