Hero Junior League: FC Goa U-16 comfortably see off SESA FA challenge

The FC Goa U-16 team was at its best against SESA FA at Nagoa in the Hero Junior League, winning the game 2-0.

The FC Goa U-16 side battled hard from the beginning in this game, but had to be patient when it came to opportunities.

It was Climax Fernandes who remained furthest up the field for FC Goa, but the first real chance for the boys in orange came after some good work by Reezvon Fernandes.

He beat a few players in the midfield area before spreading the ball out wide to Bryson Pereira, whose cross could have resulted in a goal.

In the end, the shot was blocked by the defence, and a follow up opportunity for Pratik Kale a little while later blazed wide of the target.

An even first half saw both teams enter the break without a goal, but there were signs that a bit of magic could shift the tide in either side’s favour.

And that is exactly what happened in the second half, as the young Gaurs made their presence felt and looked more comfortable on the ball.

The pressure was on SESA as the second period went on, and a string of corners finally bore fruit for FC Goa, and they were able to get their goal.

A corner wasn’t cleared very far, and the ball fell to Rayan Menezes on the edge of the box, whose brilliant effort proved too hot to handle for SESA goalkeeper Mansur Ali.

The goal calmed the nerves and allowed the teenagers to protect their lead, but a few minutes later they had their second, as a cross from the right side was headed towards goal by Bryson Pereira.

The looping header left the keeper in no man’s land, and the ball went into the back of the net for 2-0.

The rest of the game was easy for the youngsters, who cruised to the final whistle and took back a morale-boosting victory.
