Hero Indian Super League 19/20: FC Goa go down 2-0 to ATK at the Salt Lake Stadium
FC Goa took on ATK at the Salt Lake Stadium and despite a strong effort throughout the game, were unlucky to lose 2-0 on the night.
Sergio Lobera made two changes to the FC Goa starting eleven for this game, with Manvir Singh and Seiminlen Doungel starting in place of the injured Jackichand Singh and suspended Brandon Fernandes, and the duo had something to prove from the very beginning.
Manvir in particular looked threatening in the first half, and caused problems for ATK early on, with the Gaurs making their presence felt in Kolkata.
Coro and Ahmed Jahouh were both making their 50th appearance in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) and the former may have had a chance to add to his impressive goal tally this season in the first period.
After breaking into the penalty area, the Spaniard appeared to be fouled inside the box, but the referee waved play on when replays showed that Coro was clearly tackled unfairly.
Despite the officiating setback, FC Goa pushed forward in search of a goal, and Jahouh let fly from distance with a shot that only narrowly went over the bar.
ATK had periodic efforts to make an impact, but the likes of Mourtada Fall and Carlos Pena looked in control for the most part.
The second half proved to be problematic for the Men in Orange however, as an early set piece for the home side made the Gaurs pay for not defending well enough.
Roy Krishna played the ball in from the right flank after a smartly worked free-kick, and somehow Pritam Kotal found himself completely unmarked from point blank distance, and the defender made no mistake, heading the ball past Mohammad Nawaz.
The goal for ATK appeared to bring the best out of FC Goa, who increased their passing tempo and got the likes of Hugo Boumous and Jahouh more involved in midfield.
