GPL 2022-23: FC Goa start on a winning note against Sporting Clube de Goa

Goa, November 9, 2022: FC Goa’s Developmental Team began their Goa Professional League 2022-23 campaign with a narrow 1-0 win against Sporting Clube de Goa at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa, Goa on Friday.

Despite creating several goal-scoring opportunities, a lack of bite in finishing haunted both teams for the greater part of the game. Ultimately, Deggie Cardozo’s boys broke the deadlock and secured all three points in the 76th minute through a Phrangki Buam strike.

A lovely through ball out wide from Mevan Dias found Malsawmtluanga, who then played it into the opposition box for Buam to caress the ball past the Sporting goalkeeper Ozen Silva.

The late strike resulted in Sporting Clube intensifying their efforts to find the equalizer. However, the young backline along with Hrithik Tiwari stood strong and showed resolve to thwart Sporting as they threw the kitchen sink in search of the equaliser.

Armando Colaco, the new Sporting head coach saw his  boys get a golden opportunity in injury time as the young Gaurs lost possession of the ball just outside his own box under pressure. The midfielder, however, did well to get back and block the attempt on goal, thereby ensuring the win and clean sheet for his side.

Next up for the FC Goa Development Team in the Goa Pro League 2022-23, is a clash against Sesa Football Academy on December 15. The match will be held at the Duler Stadium and is slated for a 3:45 pm kick-off.
