GFA U-16 League: FC Goa go down 2-1 to SESA FA

FC Goa took on SESA FA at Chowgule’s ground in Margao, and were beaten 2-1 despite a second half resurgence.

FC Goa began the game with a few confidence building passes, but were unable to sustain their charge throughout the first half, allowing SESA FA to take advantage.

SESA made the early inroads, and had a few chances before finding the net in the 39th minute of the game.

FC Goa goalkeeper Philip Coutinho was out of position, and a tap in presented itself, allowing SESA to take a 1-0 lead.

Despite an FC Goa response, it was SESA who entered the break in the lead, necessitating a couple of substitutions from Gaurs Coach Prestley Pereira.

At the break, Climax Fernandes came on, and gave the boys in orange an extra hand up front where it may have been lacking earlier.

The likes of Salgeo Dias and Rayan Menezes had chances to score in the second half, but SESA’s goalkeeper held firm, not allowing shots to go past him.

SESA doubled their lead in the second half after a defensive lapse from the Gaur teens, and despite coming under pressure from the FC Goa youngsters throughout the second period, were able to keep the scoreline at 2-0 for the most part.

Wesley D’Sa managed to find a consolation goal deep into second half stoppage time, but there wasn’t enough time to find an equaliser.

Once the final whistle blew, SESA celebrated the win, while it’s back to the drawing board for the young FC Goa side.
