A goalkeeper by accident, Mohammad Nawaz started his youth career at YOSC (Youth Organisation Social Club) at his native Imphal, Manipur. An injury to their regular keeper opened the doors for the talented youngster who never looked back.

Having impressed at various national level tournaments for Manipur, the youngster was drafted into the national U16 set up. The athletic Nawaz made it to the Indian team for the U16 AFC Championships in 2016 but missed the squad for the FIFA U17 World Cup.

Nawaz signed for FC Goa in January, 2018. He played for the Gaurs in the Goa Pro League as well as the I-League second division in the 2017-18. His impressive displays helped him to gain promotion to the senior-team ahead of the 2018-19 ISL season. In the 33 games he has played for the Gaurs in the ISL, Nawaz has kept 9 clean sheets.

Furthermore, the young goalkeeper was an integral part of the Gaurs when they lifted the Hero Super Cup title in the 2018-19 season and Hero ISL League Winners Shield in the following year which made them the first-ever Indian side to directly qualify for the AFC Champions League.
