ISL 2021/22, NorthEast United vs. FC Goa: 3 Gaurs To Watch Out For

FC Goa may not have had the best starts to their ISL campaign, but these are only early days. While the loss to Jamshedpur last Friday was a bitter pill to swallow, there were bright sparks too as Airam Cabrera scored Goa’s first goal of the season.

On Saturday, they take on a side they have not lost to in more than 1000 days and all three points from the game could help revive the season for the Gaurs.

Who can help spark the turnaround? Here are the three Gaurs that we feel will be vital to the fortunes of the team on Saturday.

Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem

The final scoreline in the game against Jamshedpur could have been even more glaring had it not been for some wonderful saves by Dheeraj Singh. The FC Goa shot-stopper has done a good job for his team between the sticks so far. He has pulled off some stunning saves in each match to keep his side in contention.

Dheeraj recently etched his name in Indian footballing history after becoming the first Indian footballer to be named in the AFC Champions League 2021 Team of the Season.

Living up to his goal-saving potential, he made a total of four vital saves in the game against Jamshedpur. Dheeraj Singh will undoubtedly play an important role against The Highlanders come Saturday.

Jorge Ortiz Mendoza

The winger has proven to be a constant threat to every defence line that he has faced to date. His quick and menacing runs down the left flank for FC Goa in the last game saw him deliver a total of six crosses.

One of these crosses not only helped the Gaurs to their first goal of the season but also Airam Cabrera’s first goal for his new club. Ortiz was undoubtedly one of the most threatening players for FC Goa against Jamshedpur and NorthEast United will surely be wary of him.

Dylan Fox

FC Goa’s defence has not been the best in the last two games. They have conceded six goals so far and many of which could have been avoided. There is a good chance that head coach, Juan Ferrando, will give Dylan Fox his first start for FC Goa.

The new signing will have the chance to go up against his old side, NorthEast United, whose tactics he surely will be well acquainted with. The Australian made 15 starts for The Highlanders last season and was instrumental in guiding them to the third spot on the table. The time has now arrived for Dylan Fox to do the same for FC Goa.
