ISL 2021/22, Bengaluru FC vs. FC Goa: 3 Gaurs to watch out for

With 13 points to show from their 12 games, it has been a less-than-ideal season for FC Goa to put it gently. However, inconsistent performances have been the theme of the season for all teams across the league this season, meaning that the Gaurs will still have more than a realistic opportunity at making a final push for the top 4.

While the Gaurs sit a lowly 9th on the points table,  a win against Bengaluru on Sunday will see them rocket up the table to 5th. And that’s what they will be aiming for when they take to the field on Sunday night.

Who are the ones who can turn in around for Goa? Here are our three picks.

#1 Glan Martins

The centre midfielder is at the heart of most things that FC Goa are doing well. The Indian international is a tireless worker in the middle of the pitch, grafting to get the ball back at the earliest whilst making things tick over with much regularity when in possession.

His industrious play is a big reason why the Gaurs have been dominant in the midfield with the last game seeing them have more than 70% ball possession. The man who has been a revelation ever since joining the Gaurs that now he can provide even more impetus, especially moving forward.

#2 Aibanbha Dohling

The man from Shillong continues to impress and was one of the few without an uncharacteristic error to his name in the last game. Dohling has looked the part in most games, using both his physicality and skills to full use as he looks to etch a permanent place in the Goa backline.

With uncharacteristic mistakes at the back a major concern for the Gaurs, the 25-year-old’s form of late should be a sign of encouragement for Derrick Pereira. If Dohling can help lead his side to only their second clean sheet of the season against Bengaluru, one wouldn’t put it past them to secure all three points.

#3 Alberto Noguera

The most fouled man in the competition, Alberto Noguera is an integral part of the core. His performance in a game goes a long way in deciding where the Gaurs end up at the end of the night.

Despite a goal in the game, the Spaniard wasn’t at his best in the last game and that meant that Goa really lacked a bit in the final third. Derrick Pereira will look up to him to provide real impetus to the team going forward.
