Alberto Noguera: 5 Things You Didn’t Know

FC Goa secured the services of Spanish midfielder Alberto Noguera yesterday for the next two seasons. The man who once took to the field in the colours of Atletico Madrid in La Liga will now wear the orange of FC Goa. And understandably there is much buzz in the air following his arrival.

Primarily left-footed, the 30-year-old adds grit, guile and flair to the Gaurs’ midfield. The FC Goa faithful have already flocked to YouTube and there is genuine excitement to see what he brings to the table.

But apart from what he does on the field, what are some of the other aspects about him that you should know? Here are 5 fun facts about our latest Gaur.

#1 A passion other than football

Everyone has a passion for something apart from what they do normally in life. Things are no different with Alberto Noguera. Football has been his biggest love since his childhood days, but whenever he gets a break, he takes to the golf course with the hope of connecting perfectly from the tee.

In his own words, “If I hadn’t been a football player, I would have probably tried to be a professional golfer. I do have to improve a lot, though (chuckles).”

His favourite golfer is fellow countryman Jon Rahm.

#2 Sports obsessed

Sports is not only Noguera’s profession, but it’s also his passion. He is not one to restrict his horizons to only Football and Golf. He has always time for trying up something new and amongst the sports, he plays on a regular basis are Tennis, Padel and Golf.

He also is fond of surfing, snorkelling, cycling and going on trekking trips amongst other adventures.

His next sports on the list? Cricket.

“Well, Cricket is restricted to a very few countries and so I have never have had the opportunity to play it,” exclaimed the new Gaur. “I did watch it being played during my time in England with Blackpool. This year, I am going to give it a try.”

#3 Exploring new avenues

Alberto’s explorations are not limited to just sports, he has an alternative career plan as well, which he plans to pursue in the future.

The midfielder is not only nifty with his footwork, but also possesses a sharp acumen. Noguera already has a Masters degree in Marketing from the European University of Madrid.

#4 A traveller

Being someone who is always seeking something new, Noguera has a penchant for travelling. He likes to explore new places and in recent times, he paid visits to Croatia, Cuba, the Netherlands and Denmark. He has also been exploring his own country, Spain with trips to places like Menorca and Formentera

#5 Open to the new

Speaking of his attitude towards travelling, he further added, “I am someone who doesn’t like to only be a tourist. I love to explore deeply and connect with the people and take in the cultural aspect of things. It can be a new dish which can be really surprising for my palette, learning a new skill or wearing things I have never tried before.

“I like to take things as they come and embrace life. That is my philosophy.”

And he is eager to take in the experience that is India. When asked about what he expects from the place and the people, he exclaimed, “Woah! India has lots of things, which I would like to take in. It’s a very different culture.

“I know this year, it won’t be possible to travel, but in the coming season, I hope to go around the country.  I look forward to discovering new cities, people and monuments like the Taj Majal.

“About Goa, people just tell me that it is paradise. So I am blessed.”
