Hero Sub-Junior League: FC Goa lose 1-0 to Churchill Brothers

FC Goa were beaten 1-0 by Churchill Brothers in the Hero Sub-Junior League tournament despite an impressive second half performance.

FC Goa started the dominant side, and rarely conceded chances throughout the first half, though chances of their own were at a premium as well.

Preston Castano was leading the line for the Gaur boys, but the threat seemed to be coming from Shaniel Lucas in midfield and Prachit Gaonkar on the wings as the half went on.

Towards the end of the first period, Prachit struck a free-kick that appeared to be arrowing towards the top corner, but flew just wide in the end.

The first half ended 0-0, but there was enough there to suggest that the boys representing FC Goa could get the job done by the time the final whistle blew.

At the start of the second half, it was FC Goa who did most of the attacking, with Ethan DaSilva coming on and looking a real threat in front of goal.

Despite the Gaurs’ dominance however, a mistake by goalkeeper Floyd Hilario allowed Churchill to step in and Nigel Viegas made it 1-0.

Chasing the game, the boys in orange and black tried their level best, forcing Churchill keeper Abdul Azeez Shaikh into a few good saves, but it wasn’t enough to find an equaliser.

In the end, despite having a host of chances to find a leveller, the Gaur boys were forced to taste defeat.
