Hero Junior League: FC Goa go down 3-0 to Dempo SC

FC Goa were beaten 3-0 by Dempo SC at Nagoa in the Hero Junior League and failed to make amends for their 4-0 defeat just a week ago.

It was always going to be a tough outing for FC Goa against Dempo, and the first half turned out to be a huge challenge as was expected.

Dempo’s physicality and attacking threat caused all sorts of problems, and within the first 20 minutes, the team in blue were ahead.

It was Shreyash Naik who slotted the ball home after finding space inside the box, with Gaurs goalkeeper Micky Dias unable to do anything to stop the strike from going in.

The Gaur teens rallied soon after, looking a bit more compact as the half went on, but were dealt a hammer blow before the break as Dempo doubled their lead.

This time it was Arnold Oliveira who got his head to a cross first, and guided the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

The two-goal lead made life difficult for the boys in orange, but they came out with renewed belief in the second half.

Despite a strong start to the second period, FC Goa failed to muster up too many chances in front of goal, and paid for giving away possession much too often.

Dempo were able to go 3-0 up in the second half thanks to a goal from substitute Tarak Khandolkar, and had more chances to increase their lead further as the game went on, but some smart saves by Micky Dias kept the lead to three.

The Gaur teens tried hard in attack with Rohan Mangaonkar among the players to come on and make an impact in the attacking third, but it couldn’t lead to a goal.

In the end, it was Dempo who left Nagoa with the points in the bag and FC Goa were left with some thinking to do.
