Hero Indian Super League: FC Goa beat Jamshedpur FC 5-0, seal historic AFC Champions League spot

FC Goa made history as they beat Jamshedpur FC 5-0 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) and sealed a spot in the AFC Champions League next season.

FC Goa were forced into two changes for this game, with the suspended duo of Seriton Fernandes and Brandon Fernandes making way for Amey Ranawade and Semienlen Doungel.

The influence of Len certainly worked wonders in attack for the Gaurs as chances came, but the Jamshedpur defence stood firm for the most part.

That resistance lasted all of 10 minutes however, as the dangerous duo of Hugo Boumous and Ferran Corominas made all the difference once again.

On an FC Goa counter attack, Hugo collected the ball and had the presence of mind to spot the run of Coro, who found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and in typical fashion, slotted the ball into the back of the net.

That goal gave the Gaurs the confidence needed to control the game, and despite a few Jamshedpur chances, were largely untroubled for the duration of the first half.

The Red Miners were unable to grab an equaliser before the break, and momentum was with the visitors as the second half began.

The Goans were on the front foot once the second half was underway, and made inroads as the game went on, eventually seeing Hugo Boumous hit the post after some nifty work.

The Frenchman’s contribution in the game was there for all to see, and he received just reward for his hard work some time later, as he made it 2-0.

Hugo was in the right place at the right time inside the box, and volleyed home from close range to send the travelling supporters into delirium.

The finish was a calm one considering the stakes, and it proved vital in the larger scheme of things.

There was some gloss applied on the scoreline in the dying stages, as Jackichand Singh thrashed one past Rafique Ali in the Jamshedpur goal, and moments later Mourtada Fall made it 4-0 as he headed past Ali to make sure of the points.

Hugo Boumous just had to have the final say in the match though, and his incredible footwork and run down the flank led to a shot from a tight angle, and the ball fizzed past Rafique and into the net.

The 5-0 scoreline was a thrashing on paper, and was well deserved for the Gaurs, who worked tirelessly throughout the season to make history and enter the AFC Champions League group stage.
