Goa Professional League: FC Goa thrash Velsao 5-1 thanks to Doyal double

The FC Goa Developmental Team were dominant in their Goa Professional League clash with Velsao SCC, winning 5-1 at Navelim.

The Gaurs were entering the game on the back of an easy victory in the Hero 2nd Division League, and began this game brightly as well.

It took just a few minutes for the Dev Team to take the lead, with midfielder Christy Davis making it 1-0 with a sweet finish to stun the opposition.

There was no time to celebrate however, as a whirlwind first ten minutes saw Velsao hit back and find an equaliser through Shubham in the eighth minute.

After finding their feet and controlling the ball once more, the Gaurs’ quality was on display as they took the lead before the break through Doyal Alves, who netted his first goal of the season for the Dev Team.

Just a minute later there was panic in the Velsao penalty area, as Nestor Dias was judged to have been brought down inside the box, and the referee pointed to the spot.

Stepping up was Hayden Fernandes, and he calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 3-1 to FC Goa at half-time.

The second half was much of the same in that the Gaurs dominated play and controlled it whenever they had the ball.

They had to wait for their fourth of the evening, but it was well worth it as Doyal once again popped up and grabbed his second of the game to ensure the result was in the bag.

There was still time for a fifth to be scored, and it came via an own goal from Sadiq to wrap up a fulfilling evening for the Gaurs at Navelim.

With back to back victories for the Dev Team, the team’s overall quality continues to shine through as does their individual ability in every single game the team plays.
