GFA U14 League: FC Goa edge out Sporting Clube de Goa 1-0

The FC Goa U14 side closed out a 1-0 victory over Sporting Clube de Goa in the GFA U14 league. Substitute Arison Ferrao came on midway through the second period and tapped past goalkeeper to give his side the win.

The young Gaurs took control of the game from the kick-off and dominated large portions of the first half as Sporting were made to chase the ball around in their own half. FC Goa were able to break down the opposing defence on a number of occasions with balls through the lines but were unable to find the back of the net.

Grenville Nunes had a good opportunity to net the opener from the edge of the box but skied his effort from a good position. The opposition, meanwhile, were being made to work hard and were relying solely on the counter-attack.

Deepak Naik should really have made the breakthrough after driving through the defence but his looping shot sailed just over the bar. The last action of the half came from Alec Gracias who got into a good position and curled one goalwards. His shot, however, was tipped over by the keeper to end the half.

The second half started in much the same fashion as the first and the Gaurs got even closer to an opener right from kick-off. A corner from the right fell sweetly for Asher Rodrigues who volleyed his effort towards the far corner that ricocheted back into play off the crossbar. At the other end, Sporting striker Munna Roy missed a one on one with the keeper to keep it goalless.

The chances kept coming for the young Gaurs but they were unable to stick the ball into the net. Grenville was presented with another chance to score when the keeper dropped the ball at his feet but his shot went well over the goal.

The breakthrough finally came towards the end of the half when substitute Arison received a pass in the box and tapped it past the keeper into the far corner. With time running down, FC Goa were able to hold on to their lead and close out the game.
