GFA TACA Goa U20 First Division League: FC Goa rout Panjim Footballers 5-1

Goa, 20 May, 2022: A brace by Jovial Dias combined with goals from Rayan Menezes, Mevan Dias and Davis Fernandes helped FC Goa register their second straight win to start off their campaign in the GFA TACA Goa U20 First Division League, this time getting the better of Panjim Footballers 5-1 at the Salvador do Mundo Panchayat Ground on Friday.

Dev Team head coach Deggie Cardozo made just one change to the starting XI from his team’s win against Vasco SC earlier this week, as Jovial Dias replaced Jordan Borges up front.

The move proved quite fruitful, with the youngster putting in an effective shift throughout the 90 minutes, scoring twice and notching up an assist to show for it.

The Gaurs continued right from where they left off against Vasco, controlling the tempo of the game right from kickoff. A lack of creativity in the final third, however, prevented them from making any changes on the scoresheet in the first half.

The floodgates opened in the second forty-five with their efforts finally paying off in the 51st minute, following a free-kick from just outside Panjim’s box.

Davis played a delicious ball into the six-yard box, which was cleared by a defender. The ball, however, did not go far as it fell right in front of Delzan Passanha who then lobbed it back into the box for Rayan Menezes to head in.

Six minutes later, the boys in Orange doubled their lead through Mevan Dias, who netted his fourth goal in two matches with the help of a wonderful assist by Rayan Menezes Jr.

Despite the two-goal cushion, FC Goa did not take their foot off the accelerator as Jovial Dias stepped into the thick of things in the 68th minute. A wonderful shot from outside the box by Lalremruata HP hit the post, but Jovial was at the right place at the right time to slot home the rebound.

Rohan Bhonsle scored the consolation goal for Panjim Footballers in the 73rd minute, but Deggie Cardozo’s boys regained their three-goal advantage through Jovial’s second of the game.

The youngster then turned creator in injury-time, when he put Davis through on goal to wrap up the game and take home the three points.

The FC Goa Dev Team have now scored nine goals in the last two matches, and have conceded just once. They will return to action on May 23, when they take on Churchill Brothers at the Chowgule Ground.
