FC Goa defeat Dempo SC 6-0 in pre-season friendly

FC Goa defeated Dempo SC 6-0 in their second pre-season friendly at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium on Monday. Coro bagged a hat-trick, with Mohammed Ali, Mourtada Fall and Liston Colaco scoring the other goals.

Sergio Lobera’s men started with Ferran Corominas up front, flanked by new signing Len Doungel and local boy Brandon Fernandes. Mohammad Nawaz started in goal, as youngster Princeton Rebello given a chance in midfield alongside Ahmed Jahouh.

It was captain Mandar Rao Dessai who almost gave the Gaurs a 4th minute lead as he chipped Dempo keeper Agnelo Gomes, only for the goal-bound shot to be cleared off the line. Dempo’s resistance only lasted a further five minutes as Coro tapped in from close range to open the scoring for FC Goa.

Brandon Fernandes was the supplier for the team’s first and second goals as his free-kick found Mourtada Fall, who headed it home. Coro bagged his second of the game with another close range finish in the 27th minute.

The veteran Spanish striker completed his hat-trick in the 43rd minute with a cheeky lob to give FC Goa a dominating 4-0 lead heading into half-time. Lobera made 10 changes at half-time with only Hugo Boumous continuing from the first half. Mohammed Ali also got into the act by heading in FC Goa’s fifth in the 57th minute.

Liston Colaco’s drilled finish went low past the Dempo keeper to make it six for the Gaurs, matching their scoreline against Sesa Academy in their first pre-season friendly. Young keeper Shubham Dhas saved a late penalty from Beevan D’Mello as the match ended in another 6-0 pre-season win to FC Goa.
