FC Goa vs Odisha FC: 10 things to know about the game

After 8 rounds of games in the Indian Super League, FC Goa came out on top following their victory over fellow title-contenders ATK last Saturday. Goals from Mourtada Fall and Coro sealed the deal for Sergio Lobera’s men that night.

Come this weekend, the Gaurs will have a chance to move back to the top of the league when they face Josep Gambau’s Odisha FC. The newcomers to the league have so far blown hot and cold, but are guaranteed to pose a sturdy challenge when the two teams meet under the floodlights at Fatorda.

Ahead of the game on Sunday here are 10 things you need to know:

0 – Sergio Lobera’s men have never lost to a side managed by Josep Gambau in the Indian Super League. In charge of Delhi Dynamos, last season the Spaniard saw his team getting beaten 3-2 at Fatorda before a holding FC Goa to a goalless draw in Delhi.

0.8 – Coro is averaging 0.8 goals per game in the Indian Super League this season, the same as last season. The 2017/18 season saw the Spaniard come to the fore with 18 goals from 20 games – averaging 0.9 goals per game.

3 – The game represents a chance for the Gaurs to win three on the trot for the first time this season. Under Sergio Lobera, FC Goa have been able to win three games in a row in the ISL 3 times before.

4 – Mourtada Fall’s opener against ATK was the fourth goal scored by an FC Goa defender this season – the highest in the league. No other club has more than 2.

5 – A win against Odisha in the next game will see the Gaurs record their 5th victory as we reach the midway point of the campaign. The last two seasons have seen FC Goa with 5 wins from their first 9 games in each of the seasons.

13 – Brandon Fernandes leads the all-time leaderboard in the ISL for Indians with the highest number of assists. The Goan native has raked in 5 assists in 8 games so far, leading the table for this season as well.

43 – FC Goa currently leads the league in terms of shots on goal with 43 shots on target this season. This amounts to 5.375 shots on goal. The second on the list in Bengaluru with 41 shots on target from their 9 games – an average of 4.56 shots on goal per game.

50 – Edu Bedia became only the second foreigner in the history of the club to accumulate 50 appearances for the club in all competitions (43 in ISL and 7 in the Super Cup) when he came on as a substitute in last weekend’s game vs. ATK. The only other foreign player to have played more than 50 games for FC Goa is Coro.

100 – In 8 games so far, both FC Goa and Odisha FC have put in 100 crosses each (including set-pieces). Whilst Odisha have been able to score 6 goals from them, FC Goa have been able to net 12 times.

219 – The Gaurs have one of the most experienced line-ups in terms of their foreigners with 219 combined appearances amongst the foreign contingent. This is 2nd in the league – only behind Bengaluru FC’s 225.
