FC Goa vs Mumbai City FC: 3 key battles to look out for

FC Goa vs Mumbai City FC is the next big fixture on the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) calendar, with playoff spots and potential AFC Champions League places up for grabs.

The Gaurs have ambitions of finishing top of the standings and making it to the Champions League, while Mumbai are still in a fight to ensure they make it through to the final four in the ISL tournament.

The stakes are high as these two sides meet at the Fatorda on Wednesday, and individual battles will no doubt present themselves as the game goes on. We’ve picked three that may well stand out:

#3 Mourtada Fall vs Modou Sougou

Expect a North African battle to unfold on Wednesday as our defensive rock Mourtada Fall comes up against Modou Sougou of Mumbai City.

Sougou was the top scorer for the Islanders last season, and has caused problems for defences yet again this campaign, and will surely be a handful for our backline once the game begins.

Fall will need to be at his very best to counter Sougou’s aerial ability, and alongside Carlos Peña in central defence, will do all that he can to ensure FC Goa manage a clean sheet for the first time in over a month.

#2 Lenny Rodrigues vs Mohamed Larbi

Lenny Rodrigues bagged a goal in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, and “Mr. Dependable” will be needed at his very best once more as Mumbai come to town.

Lenny will, in all likelihood, come up against Mohamed Larbi in the Islanders’ midfielder ranks, who will undoubtedly make life difficult for the Goan.

Larbi has a few goals and assists to his name this season, and is a key component of Mumbai’s team this term, and there is no doubt that the club would need to him fire again versus the Gaurs.

#1 Jackichand Singh vs Subhasish Bose

Jackichand Singh comes up against his former side on Wednesday with something to prove.

Jacki has had a tremendous start to the second half of the ISL season, bagging three goals and improving his displays with every game.

Against Mumbai, the Manipuri will be jetting along the right wing, and will have Subhasish Bose to contend with.

The defender will surely have his hands full with the threat of Jacki, but is a proficient enough left back to counter the pace that the Gaurs possess in attack. This will certainly be a duel to keep an eye on.
