FC Goa vs. Mumbai City FC: 10 Things To Know About The Game

With the race for the AFC Champions League spot coming down to the last two games, FC Goa will have an added chip on their shoulders when they take on Mumbai City FC at Fatorda.

The Islanders, meanwhile, have a battle of their to fight as the final spot in the playoffs up for grabs. Mumbai currently is in fourth position on the table with 26 points from their 16 games but are closely followed by Chennaiyin and Odisha.

With lots at stake heading into the game on the 12th, here are 10 things you should know about the game:

0 – FC Goa have been devastating in the opening halves of games this season, conceding only 2 whilst scoring 15. The Gaurs, though, are yet to score a goal in the opening 15 minutes of games this season. The quickest goals scored by the Gaurs this season was Ferran Corominas’ opener against Odisha FC when he scored the opener in the 19th minute of the game.  

1 – Mourtada Fall holds the record of being the highest-scoring defender in FC Goa history. The Senegalese international has 6 goals to his name in FC Goa colours.

2 – With his brace against Hyderabad FC in the last game, Coro became only the second player in league history to score a goal against all teams in the ISL. The only other player to have achieved this feat is Sunil Chhetri.

4 – The Gaurs have won 4 of their last 5 games against Mumbai City FC. The run started last season at home when they beat them 5-0 before doing the doing with 2-0 win over the Islanders. They beat Mumbai 5-1 in the away leg of the semi-finals before succumbing to a 0-1 loss at home. Earlier this season, the Gaurs handed Mumbai a 4-2 defeat. 

5 – Hugo Boumous has become only the 5th player in FC Goa history to have 10 goal contributions or more in an ISL season. The Frenchman was preceded to the feat by Reinaldo (2015), Coro (2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20), Manuel Lanzarote (2017/18) and Edu Bedia (2018/19).

6 – FC Goa are on the cusp of another historic achievement when they take on Mumbai City FC. A win over the Islanders will be the club’s sixth win on the trot at home. The only other team to have done so are the Kerala Blasters – when they won 6 in a row in the 2016 season. 

7 – FC Goa’s biggest victory in the ISL came against the Islanders – when they romped to a 7-0 win in the corresponding fixture on 17th November 2015. It is not only the biggest margin of victory for any team in a game in the ISL, but also the only occasion on which there were two hat-tricks scored by players from the same side.

14 – This will be the 14th game between the sides with Goa having come on top on 6 occasions in the previous 13 games. 3 games have ended up in draws whilst Mumbai have won 4 occasions. 

14 – Mumbai has had 14 different goalscorers this season – a record for any team in an ISL season.  FC Goa meanwhile have had 10 players find the back of the net.

100 – In all league games against Mumbai City, Coro has always had a goal contribution to his name (a goal or an assist) in each of the games.
