Edu Bedia: We have the best team, are ready for the ISL

FC Goa will start off their 2021/22 campaign of the ISL season where they finished – literally. In Mumbai, they face an opponent that knocked them out from last season’s competition on penalties.

210 plus additional minutes couldn’t separate these two sides over the two legs of last season’s semi-finals. And now they are back at it again, waiting to trade blows.

FC Goa head into their encounter against Mumbai City FC on the back of a robust pre-season that began in August. The subsequent month of September saw the Gaurs embark on the Durand Heist, bringing home the Durand Cup for the first time in club history.

The Gaurs go into this season with a sense of familiarity amongst the squad. The core of the squad, including five foreign players, remain with the team. In fact, of the 11 who started the second leg against Mumbai last season, 9 will be available for selection on Monday.

Speaking to the media during the pre-match press conference, skipper Edu Bedia spoke on the subjects.

“It’s a very important thing ( FC Goa retaining their core of the team) because we know each other, we know our style and especially after pre-season and the Durand Cup we are ready for the ISL,” stated Bedia.

‘’The Durand Cup was very good for us, we did have a few problems with the timings, the other things but all of that helped us strengthen as a unit or team and of course, our confidence increased because we won the Durand Cup’’

‘’We have the best team and have definitely been one of the most consistent over the last few years. Of course, we have a big opportunity but we just have to be careful in some big games and keep thinking of the next game and the next after, not the trophy or anything else.’’
