Alberto Noguera: I trust this team, we will turn things around

FC Goa’s opening salvo in the ISL didn’t quite go to plan as Mumbai City trounced the Gaurs 3-0 at Fatorda on Monday night. The defeat brought an end to the Gaurs’ league record of going 15 games unbeaten.

Alberto Noguera, one of the vital cogs in the FC Goa machinery and last season’s winner of the DHL Winning Pass of the League thanks to his 8 assists, believes that the team will certainly turn it around in the coming days.

“Yes, I want (to take responsibility in helping the youngsters and turn things around), but not because I am a senior player, but because I am sure we can prove that this was just a bad day and nothing more than that,” said Noguera following the game in an interaction with fcgoa.in.

“We want to improve. I trust this team. I’m sure that if we can tweak a few things we will be able to have a good season again. I trust this team one hundred per cent.”

With FC Goa facing Jamshedpur on the 26th, the Spaniard feels it’s a good thing that the Gaurs will be back in action soon as it gives less of an opportunity to brood over the defeat.

“We are looking forward to the next training, the next game. It’s good that we get to play soon,” added the central midfielder.

“We don’t want to think too much about the past because that’s something we can’t change. The new game gives us a chance to prove ourselves again and we are looking ahead rather than looking back.

“As everybody saw, it was a very bad game for us. This happens in football sometimes. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. We can’t keep harping on that. We have to look forward to the next game. The challenge for us would be to understand what went wrong and look to improve and work harder.”
