FC Goa squandered a two-goal lead in the dying minutes and was held to 3-3 draw by Salgaocar in their Goa Pro League clash here at the Duler Stadium. Two goals in the 90th and 94th minute of the game saw the men in green eke out a point from the game.
It was Salgaocar who drew first blood in the game. A brilliant cross-field ball found Viven de Souza on the left and beyond the backline. The winger cut the ball back for an onrushing Devendra Murgaokar who took a touch to get beyond Jonathan Cardozo before slotting it home to give Salgaocar the lead in 10th minute of the game.
FC Goa came back strong and equalised in the 24th minute of the game courtesy of a brilliant free-kick by Liston Colaco from around 25-yards out. The opportunity presented itself when Aaren D’Silva was fouled at the edge of the box. The FC Goa no. 10 stepped up to the plate and served up a sumptuous strike that left the diving Salgaocar keeper without a prayer as the ball nestled into the top corner.
Liston came within an inch of giving Goa the lead few minutes later but his effort from a free-kick from a similar distance this time crashed off the crossbar.
FC Goa looked in control of the game and their endeavours were finally met with success in the first minute of added time at the end of the first half. A mazy dribbling run from Liston saw him glide past three Salgaocar defenders before cutting it across for Nestor Dias to tap in.
The Gaurs started the second half in similar fashion and were quickly rewarded for their efforts when a fine goal from Sarineo Fernandes helped Goa double the lead in the 54th minute. The left back intercepted a pass in midfield and set off for a run. He kept his composure to beat his first man before unleashing a shot that was too good for the keeper to deal with. FC Goa then missed two gilt-edged chances to put the game to bed in the minutes to follow
Salgaocar took advantage of this when first, a brilliantly taken shot from Samuel Costa in the 90th minute brought the score line to 3-2, before Devendra Murgaokar struck again courtesy of a header from a corner to bring the men in green back on level terms. The touch would prove to be Salgaocar’s last of the game.
The result takes FC Goa’s tally to 14 points from 6 games. The Gaurs have won 4 and drawn twice to lead the table with Sporting Clube de Goa in second spot having played the same number of games.
